More Jimmer from Denver

Jimmer Fredette has received a ton of focus throughout the season and that’s continued during the past few days here in Denver. Reporters from New York, who had been covering St. John’s until it lost to Gonzaga on Thursday, are still here. With the Red Storm gone from the NCAA Tournament, the New York media is doing a lot of stories of Fredette, who hails from Glens Falls.

Here are some Jimmer tidbits as we await tipoff between BYU and Gonzaga:

Fredette and teammates Noah Hartsock and Charles Abouo were asked about the popular phrase, “Jimmered,” and it’s meaning.
Said Fredette: I just think it’s whenever you do something good, the team does something good, you get excited, maybe hit a long-range shot, make a nice move, make a shot, whatever it is. I think it has to be good, though.”
Said Hartsock: It’s probably a 40-foot jump shot at the half. I consider that being ‘Jimmered.’”
Said Abouo: “I really have no idea. I’ve seen it being used in all kinds of different ways. I’m sure it means something good, but I don’t know what it means.”

Fredette was also asked about the best signs he’s seen this season in the stands playing off of his name. His response: “There’s been so many great signs, clever things that people have done this year. It’s been fun. I always like the phrase ‘Fredette about it.’ That’s funny, me being from New York, knowing a lot of Italian people. The fans have been great this year, very creative. I’ve had great support wherever we’ve went throughout the country. Even opposing teams will make up stuff that’s kind of funny, too. It’s been fun, we’ve had a lot of fun with it.”

Fredette has said that his sports hero is John Stockton, the former Utah Jazz star, and Hall-of-Famer. Stockton is a Gonzaga alum and his son, David, is a guard on the current Bulldog team. Fredette said he hopes to play well in front of John Stockton today.

Another note: The media relations staff from both BYU and Gonzaga originally said today’s game would be the first meeting between the two schools. Late last night, BYU confirmed that this is actually the second meeting. Gonzaga beat BYU, 46-41, in 1949, in the Los Angeles Invitational.

We chatted bielfry with Jimmer and Jackson before the camp started in the Staff area. Other notables in this room Brandon Davies, Charles Abouo, Noah Hartsock, Stephen Rogers, Luke Magnusson, etc. Jimmer actually remembered who we were from the Jimmer photo shoot.
