Halftime: BYU 47, TCU 30
On “Jackson Emery Night” here at the Marriott Center, No. 9 BYU leads TCU at halftime, 47-30.
Prior to the game, senior guard Jackson Emery was honored. He received a basketball, presented by coach Dave Rose, commemorating the breaking of Danny Ainge’s 30-year-old career steals record last week at Utah. The crowd gave Emery a standing ovation.
The big story so far is that guard Jimmer Fredette has struggled from the field, hitting only 4-of-12 shots. He went scoreless for the first seven-plus minutes of the game, and then went on a tear, scoring 10 consecutive points, including a pair of 3-pointers. One of them was from about 25 feet out.
However, that was it from Jimmer, in terms of scoring, in the first half.
Despite Fredette’s shooting woes, the Cougars are shooting 54.5 percent as a team from the floor. TCU is shooting 40 percent.
BYU led by as many as 20, 41-21, with about four minutes remaining in the half.
TCU is led by Ronnie Moss, who leads all scorers with 15 points. For the Cougars, Emery has nine points while Kyle Collinsworth has eight points, along with four assists, two steals and seven rebounds.
Will Jimmer find his shooting touch in the second half?
