Chambers is back

Wide receiver O’Neill Chambers has returned to practice this week after serving a two-week suspension. Coach Bronco Mendenhall said that while Chambers is back, his status could change if Chambers doesn’t fulfill all of his obligations.
Chambers said he watched the Cougars’ loss to Utah State last Friday on television. He said he saw “no pride, no will, no anger.” Then he vowed, “I’m going to bring that back.”
In four games this season, Chambers has caught five passes for 48 yards.
What was it being able to practice or play?
“Painful. Motivational,” he said.

BYU practiced this afternoon in their indoor facility. Although reporters weren’t allowed to watch, it was a spirited session.
Things are definitely different now that coach Bronco Mendenhall is serving as defensive coordinator after the firing of Jaime Hill.
“We’re getting worked to death,” said cornerback Brian Logan.
Said Mendenhall of his players: “They’ve been challenged for a couple of days.”

Asked about his reaction to Hill’s firing, Logan said he was “just shocked and a little bit confused, because we didn’t see it coming. There was nothing given to us that we’d seen as to why he’d be let go. Obviously, we’re not behind the scenes like coach Mendenhall is. We trust him 150 percent. I love that man and I’ll play for him any day. For him to see something like that to make a change like that, there obviously was something there.”
How is the rest of the team taking it?
“Some guys take it how they want it,” Logan said. “Some guys can be more effective with coach Hill’s leadership philosophy and more guys can be more successful with coach Mendenhall. My opinion personally is that being at a school like BYU, I think you have to go coach Mendenhall’s route, which is the faith, family, education, friends, then football. I think anywhere else, coach Hill’s leadership and philosophy and the way he went about things would be normal.”
Logan said he’s talked to Hill in recent days.
“He’s doing good. He said if I ever needed anything from him to give him a call. He wished me the best of luck and I told him the same thing.”

BYU head trainer Kevin Morris said safeties Steven Thomas (concussion) and Andrew Rich (neck/shoulder) haven’t been practicing this week. Whether or not they play Saturday will be a game-time decision. Linebacker Jordan Pendleton is out 2-6 weeks with a knee injury.
