Wardenburg back at the Marriott Center?

Remember that assistant men’s basketball coaching job at BYU-Hawaii that Lone Peak High coach Quincy Lewis was going to accept, but then decided to turn down? Well, a source told me over the weekend that there’s a good chance that job might now to go former BYU assistant John Wardenburg. I haven’t been able to reach Wardenburg, or confirm anything official, but I have some calls and emails out and once I get an official response I’ll post more. I actually think this would be a good gig for Wardenburg, who almost landed an assistant job at Oregon. The BYU-Hawaii job, which became open when assistant Brandyn Akana took a job with Gib Arnold at the University of Hawaii, could someday evolve into more when head coach and athletic director Ken Wagner decides he wants fewer duties. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Wagner coach for only another five years. If Wardenburg does get this job he’d make a visit to the Marriott Center on Nov. 5 when the Seasiders come to town to play the Cougars.
I heard a few weeks ago that ormer BYU center Chris Miles was going to play professionally in the Czech Republic. That’s now official, or at least it’s officially been announced. And as most of us expected, Jonathan Tavernari is going to play professionally in Italy. I haven’t heard where former Cougars Trent Plaisted, Lee Cummard and Keena Young are going to play next season. Here’s BYU’s release on Miles and JT:

Here’s also a piece from BYU’s Kyle Chilton on Charles Abouo playing for the Ivory Coast national team in the World Championships:
