Rose adds Hall to his staff

Former BYU basketball player Mike Hall was pretty crafty on the court, but now he’s going to have to put his other basketball management skills to work. Cougar coach Dave Rose announced today that he’s hired Hall to fill the open spot on his staff as the director of basketball operations. Hall, who has a degree in recreation management, will be responsible for the team’s travel arrangements and other team administrative matters. He fills the position held by Tim LaComb the past few seasons. LaComb was recently promoted to assistant coach, taking the spot formerly held by John Wardenburg. Below is the release from BYU on the hiring of Hall:
PROVO, Utah (July 12, 2010) – BYU men’s basketball coach Dave Rose announced today the hiring of former Cougar Mike Hall as director of basketball operations. Hall comes to BYU with five years of experience playing overseas and in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA).

“We’re very excited to have Mike Hall join our staff,” Rose said. “He was a terrific player here and more important a terrific teammate. His experience coupled with his respect for the tradition of BYU basketball makes him a great addition to our program.”

The San Bernardino, Calif., native played two seasons for the Cougars from 2003-05. He was named the Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Year and earned a spot on the All-MWC Third Team as a junior. As a senior, Hall led the Cougars in scoring (13.9 ppg) and repeated as a third-team All-MWC honoree. He finished his BYU career averaging 13.3 points and 3.5 rebounds.

Prior to joining the Cougars, Hall played his sophomore season at Dixie State where he was an NJCAA All-American and the Scenic West Athletic Conference and NJCAA Region 18 Player of the Year. He spent his freshman season at Pepperdine where he played 18 games.

Since graduating from BYU, Hall has played professionally in Turkey, France, Austria and Japan. In 2006, he played for the Utah Eagles of the CBA. In 2009-10, Hall played for the Shiga Lakestars in Japan and averaged 9.2 points and 2.9 rebounds.

“I’m really excited for the opportunity to be a part of BYU basketball,” Hall said. “To get my start in college basketball at BYU is like a dream come true. Coach Rose has a great staff and I hope to contribute in any way that I can.”

Hall graduated from BYU in 2005 in recreation management. He and his wife Tara have a daughter, Halle (two-years old) and a son, Swift (10 months).
