Rose continues cancer efforts

In case you didn’t catch it in my blog last week, BYU basketball coach Dave Rose, who had emergency surgery last summer to remove a cancerous tumor in his spleen and pancreas, had his most recent scan last month and it came back clean again. That’s two clean scans since his surgery last June. That’s very good news that’s kind of been buried in all of the other offseason BYU basketball happenings.
Even before his own cancer scare, Rose and his wife Cheryl have always been active in cancer awareness and cancer care causes. Through their Children with Cancer Christmas Foundation they’ve helped bring a little more happiness to families with children suffering from cancer. This summer, however, the Roses won’t be able to host their annual golf fundraiser at Riverside Country Club because of construction on a new clubhouse at Riverside. But that hasn’t stopped the Roses from continuing any cancer awareness efforts possible. Later this month Rose will join other Mountain West Conference coaches in a golf tournament and fund raiser in Las Vegas. Here’s a link to the Mtn’s release on the event.

I’m actually going to be in Vegas myself that weekend, and maybe I’ll drop by to see how Rose fits in hanging out in a posh Palm’s Casino fantasy suite. And I’m jealous that he gets to play two of Vegas’ better golf courses. All for a good cause.
