Jimmer might not get the workouts he's hoping for

The BYU Cougars just announced that reserve guard Michael Loyd Jr. is leaving the basketball program to play somewhere else. I’m working on a story for tomorrow’s paper, but right now all we have is what BYU is saying, which is not much. Coach Dave Rose is out of town and unavailable for comment.
But on another topic of interest to BYU basketball fans, it appears NBA officials are not anxious to give NBA draft fence sitters – like Jimmer Fredette – the workouts they’re after in hopes of increasing their value or at least getting an assessment of what they lack in order to become NBA worthy. In other words, all those workouts like prospects like Fredette are expecting before May 8, when they’d have to get out of the draft in order to return to college, might not happen. Fredette said last week that unless he gets feedback from some workouts that he’s going to be a first-round pick, he’s coming back to BYU. Well, without some workouts, he’s not going to get that assurance. Here’s a nice blog on the subject by ESPN’s Andy Katz on the subject.
