BYU to meet Oregon State in 2011 and 2012
BYU football has been having a tough time scheduling automatic qualifying BCS opponents. But things have improved lately.
In January, it was announced that the Cougars will visit Texas in 2011.
Today, athletic director Tom Holmoe announced that BYU will take on Oregon State in 2011 and 2012 as part of a home-and-home series.
The first game is scheduled for Sept. 3, 2011 in Corvallis. The following year, on Sept. 1, 2012, the two teams will meet in Provo.
“We are excited about this series with Oregon State,” Holmoe said. “Both teams have tremendous coaches who have enjoyed a lot of success. The two-game series should be very entertaining.”
Cougar coach Bronco Mendenhall played football at Oregon State from 1986-87.
“I have great admiration for the BYU program and what coach Mendenhall and the Cougars have accomplished,” coach Mike Riley said in a statement. “I think both teams enjoyed being around each other at the Vegas Bowl last December and I know our team will look forward to these games in the future.”
The Beavers lead the all-time series between the two schools, 5-4. OSU is 4-1 against BYU in Corvallis while the Cougars are 2-1 against the Beavers in Provo. BYU defeated OSU, 44-20, in the Las Vegas Bowl in December.
