One team from Kansas heading home

Now that Northern Iowa has shocked No. 1 Kansas in the precursor to BYU’s twilight game against Kansas State, maybe some of the Wildcats secondary fans will leave the Ford Arena and head to the nearest pub. A shocker, to say the least. But, I watched it from courtside, and it was no fluke. The Panthers are well coached and their guards outplayed the Jayhawks’ backcourt from start to finish.
So, the questions any BYU fan should have are these: Will the upset in Game 1 at the Ford Center inspire the Cougars? Will Kansas losing deflate some of the fans here who would have been joining the Wildcats fans in pulling for Kansas State? Maybe these power conference teams aren’t so powerful after all.
With New Mexico getting throttled by Washington in San Jose, the Cougars are the Mountain West Conference’s last hope for a Sweet 16 team. To say the least, today’s game is one of the biggest in school history, especially when you add on the possibility of playing in Salt Lake City next week.
Five minutes from tipoff. Cougars didn’t shoot very well in warmups. Who knows what that means.
