Cougars getting national love in OKC
After their thrilling double-overtime win on Thursday over Florida, several members of the BYU Cougars stuck around the Ford Center and watched Kansas State handle North Texas, Northern Iowa edge UNLV, and then Kanas pull away from Lehigh. Today, the Cougars meet with the media at 1:30 p.m. Central Time and then have a closed practice.
After Thursday’s win, and with the big games had by Jimmer Fredette (37 points) and Michael Loyd Jr. (26 points) the Cougars are getting some love from the national media. Speculation is that if Fredette keeps up at this pace he’ll be tempted to declare for June’s NBA draft. My bet is that he will regardless of how he finishes the tournament, but that it will be more of a test-the-waters move and that he’ll return to BYU next season, unless he gets the vibes from some reliable NBA source that he’ll be a high first round pick. Right now, as good as he is in college, pro scouts have a lot of question marks about his defense. Here are some links to some national articles on Fredette and Loyd.
