BYU’s Jimmer Fredette started tonight against Utah, but got into early foul trouble and has played only six minutes. But once again sophomore Michael Loyd Jr. has come to the rescue with his second-straight jaw-dropping half to lead the Cougars to a 36-24 lead at halftime.
Loyd has hit 7-of-13 shots for 18 points in 14 minutes. He also has one assists and four steals. Overall, BYU’s bench has outscored Utah’s bench 27-8. It’s good thing for BYU that Loyd, Brandon Davies and Charles About have combined for 27 point, because the Cougars starters have nine points combined on 1-of-12 shooting.
The Utes having a tougher time from the floor, shooting only 29 percent. Utah also has 13 turnovers.
