Comparing Fredette and Curry

Jim Rayburn’s blog post comparing Jimmer Fredette to Danny Ainge seemed to draw a lot of different opinions. One of those that I agree with is that it’s difficult to compare players from two different generations. With all the speculation of Fredette potentially playing in the NBA, I think it would be much more helpful to compare Fredette to somebody who is playing right now.

To me, one player who seems to have a similar skill set to Fredette is Golden State Warriors rookie point guard Stephen Curry.

Now, Curry is one of the most exciting young players in the NBA and I realize Fredette has a long way to go to even get into the league, but there are similarities between the two. Here’s a few things I’ve noticed about Curry that I also see in Fredette:

*He was a shoot-first guard at Davidson before he switched to the point guard position his senior season. He improved his ball-handling immensely (which has helped him this season) and still led his team in scoring.

*Curry is a shot-maker — he has the ability to pull up and hit a three in transition or get into the lane to make a circus shot in traffic.

*He’s fun to watch because you never know what he’s going to do. He can take over the game by scoring or by passing, depending on what his team needs. He also does things with a flair that not every player has.

*Curry looks like he could be a high-schooler, not a professional basketball player.

These are just some thoughts I had. What other current players do you think compare with Fredette?
