Cougars jump a spot in AP poll, up three in coaches poll
After Saturday’s 43-point thumping of Air Force, the BYU Cougars have moved up one spot in the AP men’s basketball poll to No. 16, only five points behind Texas for the 15th spot. The Cougars, with 669 points in the voting, are well ahead of Vanderbilt in the 17th spot, which received 529 points.
The Cougars advanced three spots higher in the ESPN/USA Today coaches poll, from No. 17 to No. 14, and are ranked one spot higher than Mountain West Conference foe New Mexico.
In the AP poll the Lobos, with road wins at UNLV and Utah, moved up from 15th to the No. 12 spot and carry the highest ranking of any team out West in that poll. Gonzaga, at No. 9, is the highest ranked team out West in the ESPN/USA Today poll.
UNLV, with losses to the Lobos and San Diego State, dropped out of the Top 25 in both polls.
