A look at BYU's last four recruiting classes — where they are now

With signing day tomorrow, I’ve compiled the lists of BYU’s last four recruiting classes, starting in 2006. These are the names of the official signees for each given year, so walk-ons and some mid-year signees are not included. I didn’t include much detail with each name, just enough to provide a snapshot of each class (thanks to BYU director of football operations, Duane Busby, for his help to ensure these lists are accurate).

It’s interesting to see how many of these recruits didn’t pan out for whatever reason and never played for the Cougars. It’s also interesting to note that there are current players who are big contributors despite not being part of any of these lists (DB Andrew Rich, OL Marco Thorson, for example). For many of these players below, the jury is still out on the impact they will have on the program.

To this point, how would you rate each class?

2006

DB Brandon Bradley — Starting boundary cornerback in ’09.
WR Rhen Brown — Scout team in 2009.
DB Robbie Buckner — Backup corner in 2009.
QB Sam Doman — Transferred to Oregon.
DL Ian Dulan — Played three years, now serving mission.
DE Mosese Foketi — Played two seasons as a backup.
OL Ryan Freeman — Played as a freshman, served mission and then a backup O-lineman in ’09.
DT Romney Fuga — Played two seasons, including ’09, with mission sandwiched in between.
RB Mike Hague — Played as freshman, served mission, out with injury last season.
QB Max Hall — Three-year starter, all-time winningest QB in BYU history.
OL Braden Hansen — Started every game last season at left guard, named freshman All-American.
WR McKay Jacobson — Played significant minutes as true freshman in ’06, averaged 24 ypc last season.
DS Matt Johnson — Never enrolled.
OL Walter Kahaiali’i — Redshirted in 2006, mission.
QB James Lark — Redshirted in ’06, lettered in ’07, just returned from mission.
LB Nate Moncur — Never enrolled.
DB Michael Moore — Left school.
TE Mike Muehlmann — Mission, redshirted in 2009.
LB Brandon Ogletree — Mission, backup LB last season.
DB Tico Pringle — Played one season before leaving school.
DL Jordan Richardson — Redshirted in 2006, backup in 2009.
CB Andre Saulsberry — Lettered in 2006, 2007.
OL Tom Sorensen — Vanderbilt transfer left team in 2008 due to injury.
K/P Riley Stephenson — BYU’s starting punter last season.
DT Matangi Tonga — Played one season before leaving school.
OL Rick Wolfley — Lettered in 2007 and 2008 before leaving team prior to last season.

2007

OL Famika Anae — Back from mission, enrolled in school.
DL David Angilau — Redshirt in 2007 then left school.
LB Tyler Beck — Mission.
DB Brannon Brooks — Redshirted in ’07, saw limited action in ’08 before leaving team.
TE Braden Brown — Converted to offensive lineman last season.
RB J.J. DiLuigi — Backup RB past two seasons.
WR Scotty Ebert — Never enrolled.
TE Kaneakua Friel — Played fullback/tight end as freshman, now on mission.
LB Austen Jorgensen — Played as a freshman, recently returned from mission.
WR Ryan Kessman — Left team.
OL Levi Mack — Redshirt in 2007, left team.
TE Devin Mahina — Back from mission, enrolled in school.
OL Eathyn Manumaleuna — Played as freshman, returning from mission this week.
WR Marcus Mathews — Back from mission, enrolled in school.
QB Jason Munns — Mission.
S Gary Nagy — Redshirt in ’07, backup in ’08 then left school.

WR O’Neill Chambers — Starting receiver and kick returner.
DB Cameron Comer — Redshirt, mission.
LB Spencer Hadley — Played as freshman, mission.
TE Austin Holt — Mission.
DL Solomone Kafu –Redshirt in 2008, mission.
WR Jake Murphy — Mission.
DB Garrett Nicholson — Did not play last season, is hoping to return this fall.
LB Iona Pritchard — Played as freshman, mission.
DB Daniel Sorensen — Played as freshman at LB, mission.

RB Anthony Heimuli — Saw playing time as a backup.
