Tuesday practice report: Alletto injured
BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall has been saying recently that his team is as healthy as it’s been all season.
But after Tuesday’s practice, the coach had a new injury to report.
Right tackle Nick Alletto injured his calf muscle and is listed as “probable” for Saturday’s game at New Mexico.
“This is relatively new when I found out about it,” Mendenhall said about the injury. “I’m not that worried yet.”
Mendenhall added that he should know more by Thursday about Alletto’s status and what the plan is if he can’t play.
Running back Harvey Unga (ankle sprain) was held out of practice Tuesday but Mendenhall said “he’s expected to play and play at full speed” against the Lobos.
Special teams contributor Tucker Lamb, who missed last week’s game at Wyoming with a hamstring injury, is expected to return this weekend.
Earlier today, I wrote a blog on Justin Sorensen, the freshman placekicker who played last season before being called to serve a mission to the Georgia Macon mission and recently injured his foot. Sorensen has been in Utah to undergo surgery and recover from the injury.
One anonymous poster accused me of “stealing” the story from the Daily Universe, the paper at which I cut my teeth as a young reporter. While it’s true that the DU broke the story, and it deserves the credit for that, the quote from Mendenhall that I included on that blog was from a question I asked the coach this morning during the weekly Mountain West Conference teleconference.
