SDSU a trap game?

BYU faces a huge game at home against nationally ranked TCU coming up next week. A reporter asked Cougar coach Bronco Mendenhall this week if he believes in so-called “trap games,” like Saturday’s contest against San Diego State.

“I don’t subscribe to that. Most of the time, those from the outside don’t really understand how much work goes just into preparing to win any given game,” he said. “It’s easier maybe to look ahead and say, ‘There’s TCU next week and that will be a really big game.’ What we see are all the difficult challenges just to win against a given opponent, manage our current team with the different things that are going on in these young mens’ lives. Really, the work is so comprehensive week-to-week, I don’t see how you can focus a week ahead. Maturity level has something to do with it. I’m not saying there aren’t young people that would like a week off and say, ‘This one will be easy and next week will be tough.’ But I sure haven’t seen any signs of that since I’ve been the coach. There’s too much to do to fall into that.”
