As expected, with four returning starters, the BYU Cougars were picked by the league’s media and coaches to win a fourth-straight Mountain West Conference basketball title. The Cougars received 23 first-place votes, with San Diego State garnering the only other first-place vote. The Aztecs were picked to finish second, UNLV third, Utah fourth, New Mexico fifth, Wyoming sixth, TCU seventh, Colorado State eighth and Air Force was picked to again finish last.
Cougar junior Jimmer Fredette was picked as the league’s preseason MVP. He’s joined on the conference preseason first team by teammate Jonathan Tavernari.
