Johnson's status — a game-time decision

BYU safety Scott Johnson, who suffered a concussion against Tulane, practiced Thursday, but he has not passed concussion protocol, BYU football media relations director Brett Pyne said Friday.
Johnson will be evaluated again at game time.
If Johnson, a senior, can’t play, look for sophomore Shiloah Te’o or freshman Craig Bills to see plenty of work in the defensive secondary.

BYU’s other safety, Andrew Rich, said he was impressed with the play last week of Te’o and Bills, who stepped in for Johnson when he went down with the injury. Bills recorded an interception in the second half.

“They did well,” Rich said. “Shiloah made some plays and Craig caught one in the breadbasket. So they both made plays. We’ll be fine there if Scott can’t go. Of course, we’ll miss him, but those other two will be able to fill in nicely.”

Rich knows BYU will have its hands full against Florida State.

“They’re an explosive offense. They have a quarterback who’s good on his feet and has a good arm,” he said. “The receivers and running backs can make plays. They’re similar to a team like Oklahoma as far as their speed goes and how they can stretch the field vertically. We’re going to have to be able to contain those guys and try to limit their offense and big plays. They have a lot of playmakers.”
