Collinsworth trims list to three

It looks like the BYU Cougars are battling Virginia and USC for Provo High 6-foot-7 guard/forward Kyle Collinsworth. Collinsworth, who can play the point, the two or small forward, has eliminated Stanford, Arizona State, Kansas, Utah and UNLV. Here’s the latest from his recruiting picture:

Collinsworth made an official visit to USC on Sept. 4 and 5. Trojan officials, as expected, rolled out the red carpet. He spent a lot of time at the new $150 million Galen Center, the same arena where the Cougars will play Fresno State in December. The Collinsworth family attended the Trojans’ football game against San Diego State, and met with AD Mike Garrett and his staff. Jordan Cameron, a former BYU basketball player who is now a tight-end for USC’s football team, was a host along with James Dunleavey, the son of L.A. Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy.

BYU’s coaching staff made its official in-home visit to Collinsworth last weekend. He’ll do his official campus visit to BYU on Sept. 25-26.

Virginia coach Tony Bennett, who began recruiting Collinsworth when he was coaching at Washington State, is also planning an in-home visit soon. Bennett, who has already secured four top recruits for the Class of 2010, wants Collinsworth as a big point guard. Collinsworth’s final campus visit will likely be to the Cavalier campus.

Collinsworth plans to make a decision on where to attend college prior to the start of his senior season in November.
