BYU athletic web site takes a break, but will return to action soon
After about a day’s hiatus, BYU’s athletic web site www.byucougars.com will be up and running sometime Thursday afternoon.
Athletic department spokesman Duff Tittle said the university’s license for the web site domain expired Wednesday, but the school did not realize it until the web-host company in Salt Lake City informed BYU officials that the site had gone down.
When checking into the problem the web-host company discovered that the domain vendor had sent several renewal-notice emails to a former BYU employee, but those emails obviously were not getting through to any current employees.
Once BYU was informed of the situation it quickly renewed the license.
“We’ve solved the problem. We’re just waiting for things to work their way through the internet,” Tittle said.
BYU’s athletic web site is one of the Top 10 visited college athletic web sites in the country. At no time, Tittle said, was the domain in jeopardy of being purchased or used by another party.
“Our web site has become a huge communication tool for us,” Tittle said.
