A few BYU basketball updates
Former Cougars Trent Plaisted and Lee Cummard were hoping to make big impressions at the NBA Las Vegas Summer League, but both didn’t do much to improve their stock, and both appear to be headed for a season or two playing professionally overseas. Plaisted, playing for Detroit, saw his minutes go down after starting the first two games and playing only 57 minutes in five games. Cummard was actually cut by Phoenix before the tournament ended and played only three minutes.
On to a more positive note, former Cougar Travis Hansen has signed a two-year deal to play for Real Madrid, a team that will face the Utah Jazz on its preseason swing through Europe.
Jonathan Tavernari, in seven international games this offseason, is shooting better than 60 percent from the field, including 3-point range. He’ll try to secure a spot on Brazil’s main national team when it meets this weekend.
Lindy’s magazine just came out with its preseason rankings and the Cougars are at No. 29. Ranked at No. 40 is UNLV.
Kyle Chilton, BYU’s sports information guy over basketball, did a nice little interview with sophomore-to-be Noah Hartsock. You can read the interview by clicking here: NoahHartsock
