Rose to meet with media again

BYU basketball coach Dave Rose is reportedly feeling much better and has more energy than when he last met with the media a few weeks back. On Thursday he’ll spend a little one-on-one time with the regular BYU basketball beat writers to discuss his bout with cancer and how he’s progressing. He’s also expected to release BYU’s non-conference schedule for next season. The Mountain West Conference schedule won’t be released until mid-August. Watch for an update Thursday afternoon and a story in Friday’s paper.

Jonathan Tavernari, whose been playing with Brazil’s “B” team, was recently picked as one of 22 players to vie for 12 roster spots on Brazil’s “A” team – which once whittled down will play in two exhibition tournaments before moving on to the Tournament of the Americas which begins Aug. 26 in San Juan.

Former Cougars Trent Plaisted and Lee Cummard are trying to earn an NBA spot in the Las Vegas Summer League – Plaisted with the Detroit Pistons and Cummard with the Phoenix Suns. Cummard was supposed to make his debut on Monday but did not see any playing time. Plaisted has started all three of Detroit’s games, but saw only five minutes of action on Monday – scoring four points. The Suns and Pistons were not in action Tuesday, but return to the court on Wednesday.
