Where is Lee Cummard's NBA draft stock?
It’s difficult right now to predict whether former BYU guard Lee Cummard will be picked in the June 25 NBA draft. For some reason, he seemed to be a hotter commodity last year when he entered his name in the draft without an agent, and then withdrew to return to BYU for his senior season.
Cummard was noticeably absent from last month’s draft combine in Chicago, and I don’t know if he was not invited or declined to attend. He seems to be right on that borderline of players who will be drafted and who won’t be drafted. Some scouting services have him ranked in the top 50, others don’t. Some mock drafts have him going late in the second round, some don’t have him being picked at all.
He’s already had workouts with San Antonio, Minnesota and today he’s working out with the Indiana Pacers. I’ve heard Sacramento and Phoenix also have interest in Cummard. The Jazz are just starting to bring in players, so we might even see him showcase his stuff back in Utah in the next two weeks.
Whether he’s picked or not, he’s still got a shot to make an NBA team with his versatile all-around game. At the very least, he has a career ahead overseas if nothing in the NBA works out.
It will be interesting to see if his stock rises over the next two weeks, and if we’ll hear his name called on June 25.
