Wishing Dave Rose the best in his recovery
In my short time working with BYU basketball coach Dave Rose I’ve learned one thing about the man – he’s a workaholic. I can tell he’s a guy who has a hard time slowing down and relaxing. This time of year, however, is normally when he does find a few breaks in his schedule to kick back some and enjoy the finer things in life – like a round of golf or a good concert. But this summer he’ll be spending a lot of time resting in bed after undergoing emergency surgery last weekend in Las Vegas to remove his spleen. He’ll likely be slowed down for several weeks.
Even though summer is a slower time than the season, Rose still had plenty on his plate right now. Recruiting is a year-round process and summer is the time for youth camps – which are just beginning at BYU.
But one more thing I learned last season is that Rose’s assistants are very capable and qualified coaches. They know their stuff and can fill in nicely for the head man while he returns to health. Certainly, Rose must be resting better knowing Dave Rice, John Wardenburg, Terry Nashif and Tim LaComb are taking care of business.
