The adventures of Frank and Jim

This is going to be my last blog for a while, considering I still have two or three stories remaining to write. Also, eventually I’d like to see the Rocky statute and Liberty Bell. This is my first visit to Philadelphia.
Cougars Lee Cummard, Jonathan Tavernari (his first pre-game media interview in months) and Jimmer Fredette took their turn in the interview room, basically talking about the things they need to do to avoid an outcome similar to what happened with BYU lost to Texas A&M in the first round last year. They seemed poised and confident that they will play better tomorrow.
Coach Dave Rose then took his turn and continued to talk on how the Cougars feel they can correct all the things that went wrong last March.
In BYU’s 40 minutes on the court the Cougars also spent the entire time on shoot-around drills. Honestly, they didn’t shoot nearly as well as Texas A&M. So my thoughts now are that BYU better not give the Aggies open looks or they are in trouble. I’m now leaning more on the line that BYU will need to win the loose-ball battle, the rebound battle and the free throw battle in order to win tomorrow.
In between all of that Dick Harmon and I ventured into the Waichovia Center’s elevator system in search of our media lunch, which we learned was about to be taken away. We forgot that 11:30 a.m. Utah time was going on 2 p.m. Philly time. Our body clocks said it was time to eat, while the Philly folks felt we should have already taken our bites. Anyway, we needed an elevator ride up a few floors to find the food. But some elder statesman named Jim, who was manning the elevator, only felt the need to stop on certain floors and kept bypassing the one where Dick and I waited. So Frank, the elevator attendant outside began cussing Jim, calling him names I cannot put in print. After kicking the elevator door, Jim finally stopped and let us in. Once in the elevator, Jim then began his tirade on Frank. Quite a soap opera experience just to get a sandwich. I don’t think Jim and Frank are best friends. But maybe they are, and that’s just the kind of relationship they have.
