BYU hoops gets some recognition

It’s been a nice couple of days for BYU basketball. First, the Cougars won a share of the Mountain West Conference title with Saturday’s victory over Air Force. Today the Cougars (24-6) broke the AP Top 25 for the first time this season, coming in at the No. 25 spot. They are also two spots out in the USA/ESPN poll.
The MWC announced its yearly awards today and, to no surprise, Lee Cummard and Jimmer Fredette both were named to the first team and Jonathan Tavernari was picked on the third team. Jackson Emery was a first-team all-defensive selection.
I didn’t have a vote this year, but had I voted, my picks would have been exactly as the player of the year (Utah’s Luke Nevill), and coach of the year (New Mexico’s Steve Alford). However, I would have put San Diego State’s Lorenzo Wade on the first team instead of Wyoming’s Brandon Ewing.
