Cougars' new punter?

With C.J. Santiago leaving BYU due to graduation and backup Justin Sorensen leaving for a mission, the Cougars’ punting job is up for grabs.

Here’s a story from the Las Vegas Sun on a potential candidate to replace Santiago — Jordan Miller from Green Valley High in Las Vegas.

By Ray Brewer

Green Valley High punter Jordan Miller has been a BYU football fan for as long as he can remember.

His lifelong dream to suit up in the Cougars blue and white could become a reality next fall.

Miller has been accepted as a walk-on to the Mountain West Conference school and will have the opportunity to compete for the vacant punting job. Coaches told him he could earn a scholarship next year if he becomes the first-string punter.

“The job is wide open,” said Miller, whose parents are BYU graduates. “They have a spot for me, and I’m excited about getting the chance to compete.”

Miller averaged 43.1 yards per punt this fall for Green Valley and was named first-team all-Sunset Region.
