Cougars narrowly miss Top 25 ranking

The weekly college polls are out and BYU came in 26th in the ESPN/Coaches poll and 29th in the AP poll. In the coaches’ poll the Cougars have 62 points, only three points behind No. 25 Clemson. In the AP they’re still a long way out, receiving 37 points to Clemson’s 169. Obviously, if the Cougars play well or win in Phoenix this weekend they’ll break the Top 25 in the coaches’ poll and maybe get some well-deserved attention in the AP poll. Of note, BYU’s players and coaches say they don’t care about the rankings because they mean nothing in the big picture. They want to earn an NCAA berth and then win in the tournament, and rankings won’t help with that goal.
