Do we have our first BYU redshirt?

I’m not sure what to read into this at this point, but sophomore guard/forward Jackson Emery is not dressed for tonight’s exhibition game against Concordia. It might just be that Emery has not fully recovered from his bout with the flu. However, if Emery had played tonight it would have meant he was not redshirting, because returning players cannot play in exhibition games and redshirt, whereas freshmen Noah Hartsock and Charles Abouo can play in these first two exhibition games and still redshirt.

Tonight’s starting lineup is exactly how I predicted after watching practice on Monday. Center – Chris Miles; Power forward – Jonathan Tavernari; Small forward – Lee Cummard; Two guard – Jimmer Fredette; Point guard – Lamont Morgan

OK, in his post-game interview, coach Dave Rose said Emery’s sitting out was not related to any decision to redshirt him. Basically, Emery didn’t practice much this week and “if you don’t practice, you don’t play.” So, we’ll wait and see if Emery plays on Tuesday against Georgetown College.
