More Max Hall unplugged
BYU quarterback Max Hall has been asked over and over again this week about the offensive woes, which date back to the Utah State game. Hall said he’s sure UNLV has studied what’s worked against the Cougar offense recently, particularly the use of two high safeties.
‘I’m sure they’ll watch film on us and how teams have played us. Teams have been successful against us with two high safeties. I’m sure they’ll try to do some of that. For us, we’ve got to make sure that the stuff we do that we’re executing it good. We’ve got to be really good at the stuff that makes us who we are and really good at getting the ball to our (running) backs and our tight ends. And when it’s available, getting it outside. We have to establish the run game. They’re very good, but they’re a team that if we play our game, the way we know how to play, I think we can win the game. But we have to do all of the little things right.’
‘Our preparation and our scheming is not the problem. I think we’re doing a phenomenal job with that,” Hall said. “It’s our desire, it’s our enthusiasm, it’s how we’re playing the game right now. We are going to step back and get back to the basics and do what we do well. I think that’s going to generate momentum for us … Every game we play, we’ve found a team doing something new against us. Teams are figuring out how to cover us. The thing is, if we execute how we can, they can’t cover us. We just haven’t been executing and we haven’t been playing how we can play. With two high safeties, we’ve got to establish the run game. We’ve got to get that safety in the box to stop the run, then open up the pass. In this game, that’s what our focus is, to focus on the little things ‘ the quick passes, the run game and then go from there and build momentum.’
