Rocky Long's take on BYU-TCU game; Gary Patterson on BYU's "average" defense
New Mexico coach Rocky Long, who was reprimanded for comments criticizing the officials after his team’s 21-3 loss at BYU, was asked on this morning’s MWC teleconference about how he sees the BYU-TCU game.
“Both teams are very athletic and they execute well. It should be a great game,” Long said.
When asked why TCU is the underdog, Long replied, “I wouldn’t consider them the underdog. If anybody has an advantage, it’s TCU because they’re playing at home.”
Meanwhile, TCU coach Gary Patterson obviously read Bronco Mendenhall’s comments yesterday about his defense. Asked how he would evaluate his own defense if he were an opposing offensive coordinator, Mendenhall said, ‘I would think that they are average and wonder how they’re keeping the points off the board. And they play hard.’
“I’m not buying that they’re average,” Patterson said. “My offensive staff and I don’t feel this is an average football team on defense. They’re playing with a lot of confidence.”
