Kickoff approaching

We’re a little more than an hour away from kickoff and the stands here at LaVell Edwards Stadium are pretty much empty. Guess the weather is keeping people away for now. Easy for me to say from the warmth of the press box.

The sun actually made an appearance a few minutes ago, but there is a stiff wind.

One of the X-factors in this game, especially if weather plays a factor, is specials teams. New Mexico’s Ian Clark is one of the top punt returners in the nation, averaging about 20 per return. As we’ve seen time and again from the Lobos, they have a knack for holding onto the ball and keeping things close at the end. For BYU, it’s important to get an early lead and play consistent throughout. The Cougars not only need a win, but also momentum going into next Thursday’s game at TCU.
