Notes from Tuesday's practice — Collie's jammed finger

BYU held perhaps its most physical practice — at least one open to the media — since fall camp began. Dressed in half-pads, the Cougars were doing their share of hitting.

Wide receiver Austin Collie jammed a finger on his right hand after practice was over while throwing with Max Hall. He went inside for treatment before returning to the practice field to pose for a photo for the D-News. When our photographer, Scott Winterton, held out his hand to shake Collie’s hand, Collie extended his left hand instead of his right.

Wide receiver O’Neill Chambers suffered a sprained ankle during practice during 11-on-11 drills. We’ll find out more tomorrow about about the status of both Collie and Chambers.

Mendenhall called New Mexico the most physical team that his team has played to this point and he expects to see more gadget plays than his team has faced this season.

Asked about the inclement weather expected for Saturday’s game, Mendenhall said he wasn’t even aware that rain is in the forecast. “I don’t take it into account. I don’t think it matters.”
