En route to the fireside

D-News photographer Scott Winterton and I are en route to the BYU fireside at an LDS stake center in Kent. We are following the two BYU team buses. The motorcycle cops are making sure we don’t get caught in traffic or have to stop for lights. I could get used to this. It’s the first time I’ve ever had a police escort to church.

We’re dressed in white shirts and ties for the occasion. As Scott and I walked into the hotel lobby, we got some interesting looks, making us feel like missionaries. All we were missing were the nametags. Dick Harmon didn’t pack his Sunday best, so he stayed behind at the hotel. I’m sure he’ll spend his time reading his scriptures while we’re gone.

I’m going to report on the fireside for Mormon Times.com, which I believe will be posted online tonight.
