4th-and-18
It’s been nearly a month since the fabled fourth-and-18 Max Hall to Austin Collie 49-yard pass completion that helped lift BYU to a come-from-behind victory over Utah. Not a day has gone by that Hall and Collie are reminded of that play. “Sometimes, no matter where I’m at, I’ll have people I don’t even know walk by and say, ‘Fourth-and-18, huh?’ It was a big play. It gave us a chance to win the game then Harvey (Unga) was able to cap it off. I remember thinking on that play that I’ve got to make something happen. Every great quarterback is able to make something happen in those situations. I’m young and for me to be a sophomore and be able to put our team in that situation and make a play like that was a big step for me and my confidence. It also helped the team as far as me stepping up as a leader. It’s one of those things where you work hard and, hopefully, when you get in those situations you come out on top.”
People bring it up with Collie on a daily basis, too, but he tries to downplay it. “Something’s always said. It’s just another catch,” Colllie said. “It just happened to be on fourth-and-18 against Utah. No big deal.”
